August means winter is coming to an end!

Winter is coming to an end! Despite the cold weather, there are some beauty tips that you can do to keep your skin healthy. Winter is a time when it is important to take care of our skin and hair. Here are some winter beauty tips South Africa:

1) Exfoliate your skin daily

Everyone’s skin has a different texture. Some of us might have more visible pores, while others may have delicate and soft skin. Regardless of your own skin type, exfoliating often is a key to having healthy, glowing skin. The problem is that the word “exfoliate” can be a little scary: it sounds like you’re putting acid on your face and scrubbing away everything you’ve got. That’s not the case—it just means that you’re actively removing dead cells from your skin in order to reveal the newer, fresher layers underneath. Think of it like gardening: when you remove old and unhealthy plants so that new ones can thrive, you’re exfoliating.

Exfoliating is important because those dead cells are not only unsightly—they also can clog up your pores and give the appearance of blackheads or even blemishes. By removing those dead cells on a regular basis, your pores are able to stay clean and clear, which is the first step towards achieving smooth skin that glows from within.

To get started with exfoliation at home, try using an exfoliating cleanser two or three times a week in place of your regular facial cleanser. This will help remove the dead cells from your skin.

2) Tone your skin before applying moisturizer

We’ve all been taught that toner is the most important part of a skin care routine, but it’s actually a very new thing. Toners started as alcohol-based solutions to help cleanse the skin and remove any lingering dirt or makeup after cleansing. It helps prep the skin for your moisturiser!

3) Use a good sunscreen during the day, even if it’s overcast

The sun, especially in South Africa, tends to get to us even if there are clouds. Make sure you wear sunscreen or use a consealer with SPF even in the winter.

4) Drink Water

It may seem like a no-brainer, but it is important to drink plenty of water during these cold months when we tend to get dehydrated more easily due to the air conditioning and central heating that we use in our homes. This will help keep your skin from becoming dry and flaky, as well as helping you maintain a healthy complexion.

5) Use a humidifier

If you live in a dry climate, using a humidifier will help keep your skin moisturized and refreshed all day long. Make sure that you clean your humidifier regularly so mold does not build up in it, which can be harmful to your health!

6) Use lip balm

If you’re prone to chapped lips during winter, make sure that you have lip balm on hand at all times! You don’t want cracked lips when wearing lipstick or gloss!
